Summer Term Weekly Challenges!

Staying at home

Everything is very different right now and I know it can be confusing. Reminding ourselves that what we are doing is for the best and not forever can be useful.

Here are some links to some films made by Playmobil which explain the Coronavirus to children.

While we know that working at home can be difficult, below are some suggestions of things you can try if you feel like sharing some of things we learn at school. The most important thing is to keep smiling and be happy!

Week Commencing 13th July 2020

Hi Everyone,
We hope you are all keeping well and safe in these uncertain times. Miss Rodgers and Mr Sheppard will be joint planning for both Cherry and Maple during lockdown. This week will look at the country of the India. This links with our whole school week theme of Friends and Family Our story this is the classic Rudyard Kipling story of the Jungle Book. This is a story of how a little boy makes friends with some unlikely animals. We will be listening to traditional Raga music and the more contemporary Bhangra music. We will work on rhythms and make loud and quiet sounds. If you are feeling adventurous you could even attempt to add texture to the music by adding and taking instruments out that you are playing. We will be looking at the famous Ornithologist Salim Ali. For this we are encouraging you to venture safely outside to listen and watch birds. You could make bird feeders for them as well as collage using feathers and sticks. We will investigate Thomas Edison and his light bulb creation as well as electricity as a whole. Finally we will cook the traditional Indian food of Samosas as well as a carrot and milk dessert food called Gajar ka Halwa. Please remember to take photos and videos of your work and email them to the class teacher so that we can celebrate and share the work. Stay Safe

Story
Our story this week is ‘Wild’, by Emily Hughes. In 1725, a boy from Hameln in Northern Germany, ‘raised in the forest by wolves’ came to live in the King’s court in England. ‘Wild’ tells the story of a girl raised in the forest, who finds life in a house very strange!
Enjoy the story, and find the sensory props and activities on the ‘Wild – with notes’ page.
