Here are this week’s activities for you to try at home. Our topic from popular culture this week is Finding Nemo! I have extended the Zoom code expiry dates so you can use the same links as before.
Monday Maths – Zoom
This week is our first week looking at money! We will be looking at the coins together to try and identify them, and then playing a board game where we’ll try to recognise which coin we’ve landed on. I’ve attached pictures of the coins below to help, and if possible, it would be fantastic if the children had the real coins in front of them too.

Cooking
This week in class we are going to make pancakes! Pancake day was during half term so we’re making up for it now. Do you prefer Crepes or American style pancakes? What do you put on them? Are you a savoury pancake person or a classic lemon and sugar?! Send us pictures!

This week we are going to make a fish tank out of shoe boxes! I’ve attached some pictures for inspiration. What will you put in your fish tank? How many fish will you have?
For literacy we’re going to be making a comic strip. What happens at the start, the middle, and the end? There are two version of this sheet, one has lines for writing and the other has space below to put symbols – please choose whichever words best for your child.

This week is our final session on time and we are looking at how long seconds, minutes and hours are, and how we can record them. We will be timing ourselves doing some activities and seeing how long it takes! After we’ve had a go, we are going to try sorting some activities into: things we can do in a second, things we can do in a minute, things we can do in an hour, and things we can do in a whole week!

Watch the scene where they all perform ‘This is Me’ – choose a character and see if you can make a poster or mask that looks like them! The Greatest Showman Cast – This Is Me (Official Lyric Video)
Once you’ve made your poster or mask, can you describe what qualities your character has? You could describe what they look like, what they’re wearing, or what they do (eg. Singer, trapeze artist).
If making a poster/mask isn’t your thing then please feel free to be creative! A description of a character however you’ve made it is wonderful.

Week Commencing 8th February 2021
Here are this week’s activities for you to try at home. Our topic from popular culture this week is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory – this week’s learning might make us a little hungry! In school we are also celebrating Chinese New Year so I will email you any resources we will be using during the week. The Zoom codes for Mon-Thurs morning are the same as last week, but I will make a separate Zoom code for the whole school assembly on Friday afternoon as soon as the time is finalised.
Monday Maths – Zoom
This week we are looking at telling the time to 5-minute intervals on an analogue clock. Again, this can be difficult because the small hand is in between two numbers – we’ll recap our strategies and look at which number the hand has past. We also need to know our 5 times tables for this – I have included a worksheet to fill in which we can use to help us. We will do this in the lesson but if you don’t have a printer please write out the 5 times table before the lesson if you are not confident in recalling them as this will ensure you can access the rest of the lesson. We will be going through this together on Zoom so no need to complete anything before the session but if you want to go over the above beforehand that could help! (If you are able to print off the clocks you can draw lines to match the clock with the correct time.)

The activity this week is a game full of all the sounds we’ve learnt so far (ch, sh, th, ng, qu)– roll the dice and read the words! Can you beat your partner and blend all the sounds together to read your word?!

Here are this week’s activities for you to try at home. Our topic from popular culture this week is Lego City – I know we’ve got some big Lego fans so I think this will be a very creative week! The Zoom codes for Mon-Thurs morning and Friday afternoon are the same as last week and those will work up until half term.
Monday Maths – Zoom
This week we are looking at half past on an analogue clock. Half past can be tricky because the small hand is travelling in between two numbers – the easiest way to remember this is “Which is the last number the hand past?” – If this fails, I try to explain this by thinking about birthdays; even if you have passed your 9th birthday and are on your way to 10, you are not there yet so we still have to go back to 9 if someone asks you your age! A third way to explain is that if you’re playing What’s the Time Mr Wolf and you don’t reach him, however close you are you still have to run back to where you were. We will be going through this together on Zoom so no need to complete anything before the session but if you want to go over the above beforehand that could help! (If you are able to print off the clocks we can have a go at writing some times together.)

Today is Children’s Mental Health Day and the theme is Express Yourself! Within the lesson we will focus on confidence (to express ourselves), and tolerance (to accept how others choose to express themselves). We are looking at all the things that make us who we are and how we can express ourselves.

This week in honour of all the things we can build with Lego we are doing our own ‘Build a Burger’ in school! How would you ‘build’ your burger? Do you take the gherkins off or add more?! Take photos!

What can you build with Lego? Pretty much anything! I can’t wait to see what you come up with. If you haven’t got any Lego can you make something with items in your house? Paper, Sellotape etc. For our writing lesson I would like you to write instructions on how to make your creation, so taking pictures of all the steps will help you remember!

Can you tell us how you made your creation? If I wanted to make it, how would I? Let me know what I need and then some steps (eg, You’ll need some Lego. First make the floor, then build some walls, next make the roof).

This week we are looking at how to tell the time on the hour using an analogue clock. We will be talking about AM/PM and what type of things we usually do at different times in the day. We will be going through this together on Zoom so no need to complete anything before the session. Can we find the correct clock to match Baby Bear’s activities throughout the day? (If you are able to print the clocks off and cut them out, I can ask people to show me which clock they think is correct when I read what time Baby Bear has done something – please let me know if you need this printing out dropping over!)

This week we are going to be looking at internet safety. Due to people being at home a lot more and the children potentially having access to iPads/computers I thought it would be a good idea! I will be reading a story where Buddy the dog is trying to help Ben stay safe – I’ll be asking question to see if we can help Ben too! After the story, we will talk about what we should keep private and safe on the computer/internet.

Can you make an animal? We are going to be interviewing pets to see what they get up to in your house when you leave! Maybe you could paint/draw or build an animal!

Can you think of some interview questions and answers for the animal/pet you made? What do they do when you leave the house? What is their favourite food? What do they like to play with?

This term we were meant to be doing athletics. Can you have a look at the challenge cards and have a go at some of the activities? Try to time yourself or measure how many you can do!

Can you make something to do with Harry Potter/magic/wizards? This could be a picture, ingredients and instructions for a spell, some acting from a favourite scene, using objects around the house or lego to make something (owl, Hagrid’s hut etc) or even try to make a wand! Home Learning – 20th July 2020
This is our last 3 days at school before the summer holiday. You have all been so brilliant during these strange times that this week I would like you to spend your time just doing the things you enjoy. Read a book, watch a movie or have a walk in the park.
The challenge this week is to make a picnic and share it with your family. This could be in the garden or at a local park. Why not plan what you are going to have in your picnic and then make it yourself… I’m sure your adults will be happy to help you.

You have shown me how well you know your shapes. Can you sort these foods into the right groups?

Look at these different foods and see if you can remember where they come from. What vegetable is in Ketchup? What food do we use to make chips?
Ask an adult to read the clues to you from the cards. See if you can guess which food matches the description. Listen carefully!

Finally here is a recipe for biscuits. Can you follow the instructions and share these with your family?

Literacy
This is a book you can read with an adult about the things that make us all different. As you read the book think about how the children in the book are the same or different to you.
After reading the book I would like you to think about yourself and use the worksheet below to write about you. There are also some words you can use to build some sentences.
Maths
First is a sheet to practice some addition to 10. Count the groups of people and then find the answer.
Next, can you cut out the people and order them smallest to biggest.
PHSE
In this activity have a look at the different activities and talk to an adult about whether it is something you like or don’t like.
In the next activity try and match the activities to how they make you feel.

Can you count the objects and circle the right number to match each one? Don’t forget that there are links from other weeks to some of our favourite counting songs that you could use to warm up.

To link to our challenge this week I would like you to make some nature photo frames. Find some objects around your garden or in the park and see if you can make a piece of artwork, it could be apicture or a pattern. I can’t wait to see what you can do!

For maths this week I want you to keep on practicing your counting and also think about capacity. The first activity is an under the sea counting, how many of each thing can you spot?
Next, I would like you to see if you can sort the pictures into things that are Full, Half-full and Empty. Maybe you could find your own containers and fill them yourselves. Practice measuring and using the language Full, Half-full and Empty. I would love to see some pictures of you trying this!

Finding Out
If you are enjoying playing with water and filling your containers then maybe you could try this next experiment. See if you can find some objects around the house (the ones on the list or different ones) and see if they float or sink. Try taking a guess first before you drop them in the water.

The last activity this week is to make your own seaside in a bottle. Hopefully you can find all the things you need to do this.

Share your favourite book with a member of your family and then do a review. How many stars would you give it? Which is your favourite part or character?
In this activity I would like you to order instructions for doing everyday activities. Can you talk through it with an adult and describe how to do something? Can you use the words first, next and last?

Literacy – Making a chore list and practicing listening
This is to help with the weekly challenge. Can you use this chart to make your own job list for the week?
Here is an activity to practice your listening skills. You will need an adult to help you with this. Choose your superhero and look at the pictures of objects, can you follow a verbal instruction from your adult? Have a go and listen carefully! Maybe you could make up your own instructions to give to your adult.

Literacy – Answering ‘Wh’ questions and making sentences
This is a sentence building activity using the questions Who? What doing? What? Look at the picture and then use the words to create a sentence. You might need an adult to help you read the words and ask the questions. You can use the printed words to complete the activity or write your sentences using a pencil.
