Week Commencing 8th February 2021

Here are this week’s activities for you to try at home. Our topic from popular culture this week is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory – this week’s learning might make us a little hungryIn school we are also celebrating Chinese New Year so I will email you any resources we will be using during the week. The Zoom codes for Mon-Thurs morning are the same as last week, but I will make a separate Zoom code for the whole school assembly on Friday afternoon as soon as the time is finalised.

Monday Maths – Zoom

This week we are looking at telling the time to 5-minute intervals on an analogue clock. Again, this can be difficult because the small hand is in between two numbers – we’ll recap our strategies and look at which number the hand has past. We also need to know our 5 times tables for this – I have included a worksheet to fill in which we can use to help us. We will do this in the lesson but if you don’t have a printer please write out the 5 times table before the lesson if you are not confident in recalling them as this will ensure you can access the rest of the lesson. We will be going through this together on Zoom so no need to complete anything before the session but if you want to go over the above beforehand that could help! (If you are able to print off the clocks you can draw lines to match the clock with the correct time.)

Come along and share some of your amazing work from the week! Don’t worry if you’ve not done these activities yet, come say hello and get some idea inspiration.

There will be no PSHE lesson today as we have a whole school assembly on the Chinese New YearI’d love to have you all join us but unfortunately due to the privacy of some of our students and permissions, we are unable to Zoom this with families at home. I’ll be sharing all the Chinese New Year activities and resources with you at home so you can show us on Thursday’s show and tell!

Independent activities for the week

These activities can be done at any time, but we will be doing a show and tell of writing and discovery on Thursday morning! Also, we use what we’ve done in discovery to support our writing so we always do discovery first, but please do whatever works for you.

Cooking

This week has to be all about chocolate and we’re making a cake! What can you make at home using chocolate/cocoa? It could be brownies/biscuits/chocolate cornflakes or maybe even a hot chocolate!

Discovery and Literacy

Watch the scene where Augustus gloop gets sucked up the pipe.

Phonics

Please refer back to your email if you are unsure of which phase your child is working on or send me an email and I’ll let you know!

Phase 1-2: Please watch the alphabet song again – listen through or try and pause the video before it says the sound (ants on an apple PAUSE) and see if the children can figure out the sound (a, a, a). If this is getting too easy try to click on random points in the video so it’s not in order! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=48uf9I6P2xQ

This week we’ve got Snakes and Ladders to play!

Phase 1: Can you listen to the word that has been segmented (m-a-p) and blend it together (map) to figure out the word?
Phase 2: Can you recognise ANY of the letters in the word you’ve landed on? Do you know what sound they make? If you know some but not all, listen to the word that has been segmented (m-a-p) and blend it together (map) to figure out the word!

Week Commencing 1st February 2021

Here are this week’s activities for you to try at home. Our topic from popular culture this week is Lego City – I know we’ve got some big Lego fans so I think this will be a very creative week! The Zoom codes for Mon-Thurs morning and Friday afternoon are the same as last week and those will work up until half term.

Monday Maths – Zoom

This week we are looking at half past on an analogue clock. Half past can be tricky because the small hand is travelling in between two numbers – the easiest way to remember this is “Which is the last number the hand past?” – If this fails, I try to explain this by thinking about birthdays; even if you have passed your 9th birthday and are on your way to 10you are not there yet so we still have to go back to 9 if someone asks you your age! third way to explain is that if you’re playing What’s the Time Mr Wolf and you don’t reach him, however close you are you still have to run back to where you wereWe will be going through this together on Zoom so no need to complete anything before the session but if you want to go over the above beforehand that could help! (If you are able to print off the clocks we can have a go at writing some times together.)

If you have a Twinkl Go account (I believe this is free during lockdown!) then this is the resource we will be using (no need to look unless you want a head start!)

Independent activities for the week

What can you build with Lego? Pretty much anything! I can’t wait to see what you come up with. If you haven’t got any Lego can you make something with items in your house? Paper, Sellotape etc. For our writing lesson I would like you to write instructions on how to make your creation, so taking pictures of all the steps will help you remember!

Literacy

Can you tell us how you made your creation? If I wanted to make it, how would I? Let me know what I need and then some steps (eg, You’ll need some Lego. First make the floor, then build some walls, next make the roof).

The activities this week are below – choose one of have a go at both! The first is about picking the correct sound to write the word correctly (eg, if there’s a picture of a boat will you use TH = thip or SH = ship). The second is about reading those sounds already in words and using your blending to read the whole word – which word matches the picture?

Summer Term Weekly Challenges!

Staying at home

Everything is very different right now and I know it can be confusing. Reminding ourselves that what we are doing is for the best and not forever can be useful.

Here are some links to some films made by Playmobil which explain the Coronavirus to children.

While we know that working at home can be difficult, below are some suggestions of things you can try if you feel like sharing some of things we learn at school. The most important thing is to keep smiling and be happy!

Home Learning – 20th July 2020

This is our last 3 days at school before the summer holiday. You have all been so brilliant during these strange times that this week I would like you to spend your time just doing the things you enjoy. Read a book, watch a movie or have a walk in the park.

The challenge this week is to make a picnic and share it with your family. This could be in the garden or at a local park. Why not plan what you are going to have in your picnic and then make it yourself… I’m sure your adults will be happy to help you.

Please email me or add pictures on Evidence for Learning of what you get up to. Any questions or additional support please contact me. Stay safe, stay happy and have a brilliant summer! I look forward to seeing you all back in school in September.

– Mr.Skillington

Home Learning – 13th July 2020

This week our topic is based around Family and Friends. The challenge is to write a letter or make a card for someone you haven’t seen in while. I realise for some of you it has been a while since you may have seen friends, for others you have been making new friends during the changes at school.

Please continue to email me or add work pictures on Evidence for Learning. Any questions or additional support please contact me. Stay safe, stay happy!

– Mr.Skillington

Literacy

This is a story about Stan, stan learns a valuable lesson about the importance of friends. Give the book a read with an adult and then see if you can answer some questions about what has happened. There is also a picture book version that you might enjoy looking at as it is read.
