Parent Forum & Inclusive Play Sessions

The next two Rainbow Parent Forum and Inclusive Play Sessions taking place at the Monty Hind Centre in Lenton, are:

Christmas Fun Session – Sat Dec 8th from 14:00-16:00.
All are welcome. Booking is essential. Please note that parents/carers will remain responsible for their children and young people during this fun session.

Rainbow Session – Sat 12 Jan from 14:00-16:00.
County parents will have priority at this session as Chris Jones from Nottinghamshire County Council is our guest speaker, and is keen to hear your views and experiences of SEND in Nottinghamshire. Booking is essential. 

Parent to Parent Meetings

The next P2P session is on Thurs 13 Dec from 12:00-14:00, at our office in Nottingham. Light lunch provided – Booking is essential.

Rainbow Events Calendar

In true Blue Peter style we decided to hold a Bring & Buy sale to raise funds for Children in Need on November 16th.

Post 16 pupils eagerly set up the tables with all the varied donations from parents/carers. When it was time to let our customers in, excitement filled the hall, some pupils in fancy dress, some just eager to look at the things they could choose from. Everyone was smiling and showing off their purchases. The time went quickly and the pupils returned to their classes to show their friends what they had bought. It was a lovely afternoon of fun and smiles.

We raised £165.92!

Nottingham hosted the Games of Remembrance on the 8th of November. The British Army Football Association took on the German Bundeswehr (Armed Forces) to commemorate soldiers from both sides who made the ultimate sacrifice during the First World War. The school took part in this event to mark a centenary since the Armistice by attending the women’s game at Meadow Lane, taking over 50 pupils to the game.

The pupils participated enthusiastically and respectfully in appropriately equal measure; cheering enthusiastically to support and respecting the minute’s silence.  We were very proud of how our pupils conducted themselves. It was a really special experience for all, in particular for Troy who was given the German captain’s armband after the game.

A huge thank you to Mr. Sheppard and Miss. Walker who organised the day for us and to all the staff who worked so hard in preparing the pupils for the event and supporting the complex logistics of getting us all to and from there!

We have many items from the Royal British Legion to sell in aid of the Poppy Appeal.

We have bracelets, rubbers, rulers, pencils, snap bands, pencil sharpeners and stick on poppies.

We do not have any traditional Poppies due to the need for pins.

Please see the picture if you wish to see what is on offer and any donations to the appeal would be greatly appreciated; please send any money in a sealed envelope to the school office.

If you would like anything specific to be sent home please let us know by emailing reception@ashlea.notts.sch.uk or put a note in with your donation.

Dear parents/carers

We have an opening for a Parent Governor within out governing body team.

We have a small governing body which is an essential part of our school. The role of the governing body is absolutely key to the effectiveness of a school.

School governors are part of the largest volunteer force in the country, making a positive contribution to children’s education and playing an important part in raising school standards. School Governors provide strategic leadership, ensure accountability and act as a critical friend.

As a governor, you will have the opportunity meet new people, be part of a team, learn new skills through induction, ongoing training and attending meetings and have a positive impact on teaching and learning in school.

There are two full meetings per term (six in a school year) held after school and last approximately two hours, 17.30 – 19.30.

You really don’t need any experience to take on this role, just a positive attitude and a willingness to take on a new challenge.

Congratulations to everyone at Ash Lea School including family and friends for the amazing Race for Life event which took place on Wednesday 19th September. All pupils enjoyed running, walking and wheeling around the Candleby Lane field to collect their Race for Life medal.
It was an amazing event where everyone was working together and cheering each other on.

We now have the total raised £832 which is incredible. Well done everyone.

The Lord’s Taverners provides a range of specially adapted minibuses for SEN Schools catering for young people with learning and physical disabilities.

In 2017 we put in a request for a mini bus for Ash Lea School, this would enable us to take the children out more regularly and access different areas of the community. The bus has been used to take children horse-riding, fishing and to South Nott’s Academy where the older children have been using the facilities to learn how to cook for themselves.

On 13^th June, Mrs Wigley, Mrs Biddles and Ms Brown went to London and attended a presentation afternoon when we were handed the keys to the new Lord Taverners bus.
